Procedures
Classroom Procedures for Mrs. Sweeley’s Class – 2017/2018
Dear Parents,
Welcome to Kindergarten! Please take a few minutes to look over this packet of information about our classroom. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to e-mail me at [email protected]. I’m looking forward to working with you and your child to provide a complete educational experience.
-Mrs. Sweeley
CHANGES/SAFETY
Please notify us in writing ASAP of any changes in your child’s address, phone number, or mode of transportation, etc. These changes are very important and must be in writing. Having an accurate daytime phone number and address is essential for safety reasons. Likewise, no one is allowed to leave school differently (i.e. on a different bus, or with a friend) if we do not have a note. If a child tells us their transportation means have changed and we do not have a note we will make every attempt to reach a parent. But if we cannot, we will have to send the child home using the means of transportation we have documented. We want all of our children safe, so please just send a note, or call me if it is a last minute change.
VOLUNTEERS
I welcome parents to volunteer in the classroom. There will be many opportunities throughout the year to do so. We have an open door policy so feel free to stop by whenever you would like to.
CENTERS
Learning centers will be a vital part of our instructional program. They are designed to provide each child with a variety of resources in order to obtain information and the opportunity to “learn by doing”. Children work quietly and cooperate with their classmates while doing the job at the station. During centers, I will be instructing a small group of students in a literacy based center.
TECHNOLOGY
Our classroom will have a technology station with two computers. The stations will be used during center time and other times during the day for several purposes. Students will use a variety of literacy, language skills, and math programs to increase knowledge, exploring different websites under the supervision of the teacher.
HOMEWORK FOLDERS
I will communicate with you through your child’s daily Homework Folder. Inside this folder will be a behavior chart, a reading log, a take home book that should be returned the following day, information from the school, homework and work completed from that day. Please go over the work with your child to let them show you what they are doing in the classroom. Homework folders will not be sent home on Fridays because I do not assign homework on the weekends.
SNACK
We allow time for a small snack each morning. Snacks should be of high nutritional value. These help give your child a boost during the day and keep them satisfied.
LUNCH
Our lunch time is at 11:45. We welcome you to come an eat with your child at any point throughout the school year. The menu that we sent home in the Back to School Packet will be the menu used for this school year. If any changes are made we will do our best to notify you beforehand.
BIRTHDAYS
We celebrate birthdays by having Star Parties. Most of you signed up for your child's Star Week at the beginning of the year. If you have not done so, please see Mrs. Mohrfeld as soon as possible. We will send a reminder home the Friday before your child's Star Week so that you will have time to complete their Star Poster.
CONFERENCES/REPORT CARDS
We will have at least one conference concerning your child this year in January. Conference sign up times will be available on a Google Doc closer to the time of the conference. If you feel like we need to meet prior to this, please let me know. If you have questions at other times, please e-mail me and I will be happy to answer your questions.
LABELS
Label, label, label!!! Label everything your child brings to school – lunch box, book bag, sweaters, coats, water bottles, etc. Another labeled item we need is a weather appropriate change of clothes. Accidents happen (sometimes with spaghetti in the cafeteria, sometimes outside in the mud, or sometimes in the bathroom). Please send your child’s change of clothes in a gallon size Ziploc bag with their name on it. You may also want to send in a sweater or light jacket, as it does get a little cold inside the building sometimes.
BACKPACKS
When choosing a backpack, please keep the following in mind:
REST MATS
When choosing a rest mat, please keep the following in mind:
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
We will have P.E. on Tuesdays. Please make sure that your child wears tennis shoes on these days. If your child is not in compliance with the Physical Education dress code then they will not be able to participate in class.
