Procedures
Classroom Procedures for Mrs. Sweeley’s Class – 2018/2019
Dear Parents,
Welcome to Transition! Please take a few minutes to look over this packet of information about our classroom. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to e-mail me at [email protected]. I’m looking forward to working with you and your child to provide a complete educational experience.
-Mrs. Sweeley
CHANGES/SAFETY
Please notify us in writing ASAP of any changes in your child’s address, phone number, or mode of transportation, etc. These changes are very important and must be in writing. Having an accurate daytime phone number and address is essential for safety reasons. Likewise, no one is allowed to leave school differently (i.e. on a different bus, or with a friend) if we do not have a note or we have not received a phone call, text, etc. If a child tells us their transportation means have changed and we do not have a note we will make every attempt to reach a parent. But if we cannot, we will have to send the child home using the means of transportation we have documented. We want all of our children safe, so please just send a note, or call me to verify the change.
VOLUNTEERS
I welcome parents to volunteer in the classroom. There will be many opportunities throughout the year to do so. We have an open door policy, so please stop by whenever you would like.
CENTERS
Learning centers will be a vital part of our instructional program. They are designed to provide each child with a variety of resources in order to obtain information and the opportunity to “learn by doing”. Children work quietly and cooperate with their classmates while doing the job at the center. During centers I will be instructing a small group of students in a literacy based center.
TECHNOLOGY
Our classroom will have a technology station with one computer. The station will be used during center time and other times during the day for several purposes. Students will use a variety of literacy, language skills, and math programs to increase knowledge, exploring different websites under the supervision of the teacher.
FOLDERS
I will communicate with you through your child’s daily folder. Inside this folder will be information from the school, along with completed work. Please be sure to check the folder each night and return it the next day. Please go over the work with your child to let them show you what they are doing in the classroom. Folders will not be sent home on Fridays.
SNACK
We allow time for a small snack each morning. Snacks should be of high nutritional value. These help give your child a boost during the day and keep them satisfied until lunch.
LUNCH
Our lunch time is at 12:30 p.m. We would love for you to join us for lunch any time during the school year. The menu that we sent home in the Back to School Packet will be the same menu that we use throughout the year. If any changes are made, we will do our best to notify you beforehand.
STAR PARTIES
We celebrate birthdays by having "Star Parties". If you have not signed up for a Star Week, please see Mrs. Morhfeld to schedule that as soon as possible. We will send home a reminder for your child's upcoming "Star Week" the Friday before their special week. Please don't forget to send in their Star Poster the Monday of their Star Week. Have fun making the poster with your child. Include family photos, pictures of their favorite foods, colors, toys etc.
CONFERENCES/REPORT CARDS
We will have at least one conference concerning your child this year in January. Conference sign ups will be available to you in a Google Doc closer to the time of the conference. If you feel like we need to meet prior to this, please let me know. If you have questions at other times, please e-mail me, call me or drop by and I will be happy to answer your questions.
LABELS
Label, label, label!!! Label everything your child brings to school – lunch box, book bag, sweaters, coats, water bottles, etc. Another labeled item we need is a weather appropriate change of clothes. Accidents happen (sometimes with spaghetti in the cafeteria, sometimes outside in the mud, or sometimes in the bathroom). Please send your child’s change of clothes in a gallon size Ziploc bag with their name on it. You may also want to send in a sweater or light jacket, as it does get a little cold inside the building sometimes.
BACKPACKS AND REST MATS
When choosing a backpack, please keep the following in mind:
If you would like to send in something for the classroom, we have a Wish List Tree located on the bookshelf by the door. Feel free to take a banana with a wish list item on it.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
We have P.E. on Wednesdays. Please make sure that your child wears tennis shoes on these days. If your child is not in compliance with the Physical Education dress code then they will not be able to participate in class.
